Obtaining a User ID (UID)

  1. What is a UserID (UID)?
A User ID (UID) and Password is required to access many of the electronic resources offered by The UT Health Science Center. A UID is the short identifier for who you are. Your User ID is typically your first initial followed by your last name. Users with fairly common names will have numbers in their User IDs. No two people have the same User ID.

Example: John Doe is a new student at the Medical School. Following a preset naming system, he is assigned the UID of jdoe. If there are two or more network users eligible for the UID jdoe, then the first one to apply for a UID will be named jdoe, the second user will be named jdoe1, the third user will be named jdoe2, etc.

  2. How Do I Get a User ID?

For students, faculty and staff at The UT-Houston Medical School, User IDs and passwords are created as part of the registration process. Once your account is created within the SDR system, your Department LAN Manager will be notified of your User ID and password and will provide that information to you.

  3. What if I Forget my User ID (or Password)?

If you have forgotten your User ID, contact your Department LAN Manager or call the UT Helpdesk.
