Bipolar Spectrum Study

Bipolar disorder is a general term referring to a spectrum of disorders, each having slight differences. These include bipolar disorder type I (BD I), bipolar disorder type II (BD II), cyclothymia, and bipolar disorder not otherwise specified (BD NOS). This study seeks to reveal differences in the neurobiology and neuroanatomy associated with these disorders. Participants include individuals with one of these disorders, as well as healthy controls. Researchers use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) techniques to obtain anatomical and biochemical measurements of certain brain regions. These results will help researchers and physicians understand similarities and differences in the causes of these disorders.
