Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension

The division is organized to provide educational opportunities in the broad field of renal disease, hypertension, transplantation, and acid-base/electrolyte  disorders to both students and housestaff. Clinical facilities and well-designed dialysis areas for acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are available in Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and PDI-Houston Dialysis units. Transplantation activities are carried out in conjunction with the Department of Surgery and its Division of Immunology and Organ Transplantation.

In addition to providing didactic material for students and house staff, the division provides clinical training at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, and Memorial Hermann  – Texas Medical Center. Preceptorships are available to fourth-year students and housestaff rotating on the service. The fellowship program offers postgraduate training in clinical nephrology and clinical or laboratory research. Graduate and medical school student research opportunities are available
