Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
The teaching program of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine provides opportunities for students, house staff, and fellows to acquire education in the basic and clinical aspects of respiratory and critical care and sleep medicine. Emphasis is placed on pathophysiology, respiratory therapy, intensive respiratory care, pulmonary function testing, exercise testing, polysomnography diagnostic techniques, and the clinical approach to disease.
Student instruction begins during the second academic year in the mechanisms of disease course. Fourth-year electives are offered at affiliated hospitals. A separate clinical clerkship is offered in sleep medicine. A tutorial laboratory elective also is available.
