Basic principles of wound healing, critical analysis of clinical problems, and meticulous, innovative techniques are the hallmarks of plastic surgery. The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery provides fourth-year medical students with the opportunity to acquire these important principles during the surgery clinical clerkship. Students are offered the opportunity to expand their knowledge and sharpen clinical skills by spending one month in an elective assignment to the plastic surgery service. Students participate at a level commensurate with their ability and interest. They are exposed to a variety of reconstructive problems and, given the opportunity, become proficient at basic wound care. Students participate in the teaching conferences and attend plastic surgery grand rounds.
