The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery conducts training programs for medical students and residents. The hospitals affiliated with this program are Memorial Hermann Hospital, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, and St. Joseph Hospital. Department faculty participate in teaching medical student courses: in the first year, Developmental Anatomy, Neuroscience and Computers in Research; in the second year, Physical Diagnosis; and, in the third year, a surgical lecture series. Fourth-year medical students may select a four-week rotation on the service as part of their surgery requirement or as an elective. Residency training requires one year of general surgery followed by four years in otolaryngology. This includes 8-12 months of training at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Three physicians are accepted each year into this residency program. The department conducts a weekly continuing medical education lecture series by faculty and guest speakers, and biweekly resident seminars and journal club meetings.
