The teaching programs are designed to provide students with opportunities to obtain knowledge in the areas of physiology and pharmacology. Courses are offered to medical students in the first year of the curriculum in mammalian physiology and in the second year of the curriculum in pharmacology. The department also participates in graduate courses offered through the UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. An important aspect of the educational mission for the department is to provide research training for medical students, graduate students, undergraduate summer students, postdoctoral students, and fellows. The department has active areas of research and training opportunities in many areas of regulatory biology and cell signaling, including membrane physiology, neurobiology, hormonal regulation, growth factors, neurotransmitters, and muscle adaptation.
