RE:            Medical School Commencement  -  May 28, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

 

Attached is information to assist you in your participation at the Medical School's commencement exercises on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center, General Assembly Theater, 1001 Avenida de las Americas.

Parking

 

The George R. Brown Convention Center can be reached by traveling north on San Jacinto (Fannin becomes San Jacinto going north to downtown) to McKinney St.(about 10 blocks after you go under 45). Turn right on McKinney, and then about 5 blocks ahead turn right on the Avenida de las Americas, which runs directly in front of the Convention Center.  You may park in the garage under Discovery Green ($10), in the lot on the North or South side of the Convention Center ($7 flat rate, cash only), or in the Hilton garage; proceed down the Avenida until it dead-ends into Polk, turn right and make a quick left into the garage ($16) maximum). There is a skybridge from level 3 of the garage to the 2nd floor of the convention Center.  Take the escalator to the third floor of the Convention Center.

 

 

Guest Seating

If you are bringing a guest or guests to commencement, they are welcome to sit in the reserved VIP seating area in Section B (to the left of the stage as you are facing it).  VIP seating passes will be available in the faculty robing room or you may request some from Jamie Munsinger (500-5160), Jamie.D.Munsinger@uth.tmc.edu.

Directions to Robing Room 332 D-E.  If you are coming from the Hilton garage, use the skybridge from level 3 of the garage, which will take you to the 2nd floor of the Convention Center.  Use the escalators to reach the 3rd floor.  

 

If entering the Convention Center from street level, use the entrance marked D toward the south end of the building.  Escalators will take you to the 3rd level, where the Assembly Hall is located. There is also an elevator available.

 

The faculty will meet in room 332 D-E behind the Assembly Hall by 6:30 p.m. with their regalia.  We will have light refreshments in the robing rooms.   The rooms will be locked during the ceremony to protect any items you leave, but we cannot guarantee security.

 

Processional and Recessional Instructions

Faye Viola will line you up.  At 7:00 p.m. students will march into the hall, followed by the “special hooders,” then the faculty, and finally the stage party.

 

Staff members will guide faculty in and out.

 

The exit order is the reverse:  stage party first, then faculty, then “special hooders,” and then students.

 

We estimate that the ceremony will be over by 9:30 p.m.   Please leave your rented regalia in the robing room.
