  • Acquire relevant instructional resources in consultation with Faculty and Course Directors.
  • Disseminate information on new and innovative resources to the basic and clinical science course directors. The faculty may also request information on availability of innovative resources on a specific topic.
  • Arrange for the preview and purchase of new resources requested by the faculty.
  • Locate LRC materials by referencing catalogs of holdings classified by course offerings of the Medical School.
  • An automated circulation system measures the frequency with which individual items in the collection are used. An analysis of this data and feedback received from students are used to recommend revisions to the collection.

Collections

  • Over 3,500 titles of instructional resources classified by the curricular offerings of the Medical School, including the required and recommended resources. Course materials provided by the faculty are held in the Reserve Collection.
  • File of past exams, course syllabi, review materials for USMLE and resources that enhance the study skills of the students are also included in the collection.
  • Catalogs of electives and residencies available at institutions throughout the U.S.
  • DVDs of course lectures (from LRC Circulation Desk).
  • Video streaming of course lectures.

  • All UTHSC personnel are eligible to utilize the LRC facilities.
  • A valid UTHSC ID Badge is required to gain admission into the LRC.
  • ID Badges of students in the Medical School and the GSBS are already programmed for entrance into the LRC.
  • All other clients wishing to utilize services and facilities should use the buzzer at the entrances to come into the LRC.
  • There is no public entrance or exit to/from the Medical School Building through the LRC.
  • No food or snacks are permitted anywhere in the LRC. Beverages should be in closed containers.
  • The LRC occupies over 11,000 square feet of space on the Ground Floor of the Medical School Building.
  • Study spaces include 150 individualized study carrels, 6 PBL Rooms and 5 Group Study Rooms.
  • Over 125 networked desktop computers are accessible to the students in the LRC, including several high speed printers.
  • The computers are primarily for UTHSC students enrolled in coursework at the Medical School.
  • Wireless connectivity to the Internet also is available throughout the LRC.
  • No food or beverages (except bottled water) are permitted anywhere in the LRC.
  • Locate and promote the use of innovative instructional resources.
  • Maintain a collection of print, audiovisual and web based instructional resources which are correlated with the curricular offerings of the Medical School.
  • Compile and analyze data on the use of the facilities and the instructional resources.
  • Maintain the facilities and offer a quiet and functional space in which to study.
  • The LRC is located on the Ground Floor of the Medical School Building, in Suite G200.
  • Entrance to the LRC is either from the Orange Elevators in the Medical School Building or through its main entrance across the breezeway on the Ground Floor.
  • Students in Medical School and the GSBS should have a valid UTHSC ID Badge to utilize the LRC facilities and services.
  • Faculty, staff and visitors should ring the buzzer at either of the 2 entrances to come into the LRC.
  • There is no public entrance or exit into or from the Medical School Building through the LRC.
  • Enhance the teaching and learning functions of the faculty and the students in the Medical School and to promote the use of innovative instructional resources corresponding to the course offerings in the Medical School.
  • Enrich the educational experience of the students and complement their basic and clinical science curricular offerings through utilization of supplemental print, non-print and web based resources.
  • Provide a quiet, well-equipped and a functional environment in which to study 24 hours a day.
  • The study areas in the LRC are open 24-hours, 7-days week.
  • The Circulation Desk hours are as follows:
    Monday - Friday 7am - 6pm
    Saturday - Sunday 12pm - 6pm
