About the outreach visits
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations have scheduled outreach visits around the state of Texas so that Dean Giuseppe Colasurdo can gather insight from alumni, parents, and friends of the university while sharing his vision for the future of the Medical School.
The visits kicked off with a Houston event April 29, and continued with the visit in Dallas Sept. 25-26. Trips to San Antonio, Austin, and Fort Worth also are planned.
Giuseppe Colasurdo, M.D.
Dean, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston
Dean Giuseppe Colasurdo was named dean and H. Wayne Hightower Distinguished Professor of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston Sept. 1, 2007. Dr. Colasurdo joined the Medical School's faculty in 1995 as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine. He became the division head in 1997 and has directed the fellowship training program in pediatric pulmonary medicine since 2001. He was named chair of the Department of Pediatrics in 2005.
He earned his medical degree summa cum laude from G. D'Annunzio School of Medicine in Chieti, Italy, and completed his residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver.

Jackie Callies
Executive Director Development and Alumni Relations
Jackie Callies is the executive director of development and alumni relations. She is responsible for the overall management of all fund raising and alumni activities on behalf of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston’s Medical School. Prior to joining the Health Science Center, Jackie was director of development at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston for eight years and an employee of UTMB for over 12 years. Her commitment and loyalty extend beyond her professional career, but to her community as well. She has served on the Board for the HRA Village, Inc., and as vice president of development for the Junior Chamber of Commerce. She is currently a volunteer with the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society ,and serves on the board of the Planning Giving Council of Houston and holds the seat of Conference Chair. Jackie graduated from the University of Houston Clear Lake and earned a bachelor’s of business administration degree. She and her husband, Robert, make their home in League City with their two sons, Nicholas and Kyle.

Darla Brown
Director, Office of Communications
Darla Brown has been the director of the Medical School’s Office of Communication since August 2005. She works closely with the dean on his communications, and the office is responsible for all official communication from the Medical School. She joined the Medical School in 2001 as an editor in the Office of Community Affairs, and her background includes higher education communications and journalism. She graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor of arts degree.
