Artist: Jayasimha Murthy

Jayasimha Murthy has always had a passion for visual arts. He started painting landscapes in his childhood, initially with water colors and then moved to oil based pigments. He has not received any formal training in art. It was his keen interest in composition, and an innate desire to achieve a "balance" with the existing visual elements of a scene, that attracted him to photography.

Jayasimha started to make pictures with film cameras in the late nineties and has gradually transitioned to digital photography. Being a self trained photographer, lot of effort and time was spent in trying to learn the technical aspects of capturing light. Jayasimha first perceived the advantages of digital imaging while learning about digital microscopy. The instant feedback from the images and the ability to process RAW images to a final composite in a digital darkroom, made digital photography all the more exciting and technically challenging. He loves to travel with his camera and has a deep interest in landscape, travel and macro photography.

Jayasimha has been a faculty member at the at the UT Medical School since 2006 in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine.
