Artist: Michael Baik

Born and raised in Cypress, TX to immigrant parents, Michael Baik is the youngest of two siblings and a current 2nd year medical student. His interest in photography started in high school after taking photography courses but only became a true obsession after his time spent abroad in Japan. His love of gadgets and inability to draw drew him to photography as a medium for artistic expression. With his camera in hand Michael spent much of his vacation time as an undergraduate student traveling throughout Asia, Europe and more recently to South America. He has been fortunate enough to have several of his photos featured in calendars and city guides. Michael strives to not only tell stories with his photos but to elicit an emotional response from the viewer, whether it is nostalgia, sadness, or laughter. Recently he has been experimenting with indoor studio lighting as represented by the photos in this series. Michael would like to thank friend and fellow student doctor Michelle Lee for being both beautiful and patient while sitting for these photos as well as those who took time out to offer critiques of this series.
