Artist: Lynne Arnett
When Lynne Arnett retired from her position as a diagnostic psychologist for the Texas prison system, her co-workers teased that she would be back in two weeks because she couldn't live without work. Instead she found a hidden side of herself and became compulsive about something new. Though she never received formal art training, a hobby that began as Christmas decoupage gifts for her family evolved into the creation of larger works of collage on paper.
Since this artistic urge emerged in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy, the psychologist in her believes she needed to express herself in a way that imposed order out of chaos. Beginning with a particular theme and a wealth of related images, she designs, cuts, and pastes until she achieves a representation of the theme that is unique. Lynne believes this is an ideal medium for anyone who lacks drawing skills but has artistic imagination, patience, and a respect for composition. She has completed approximately 50 framed works, some of which were customized gifts that represented the personal interests and attributes of the recipient. In the spirit of injecting humor when possible, she has injected a cat into all but one of her works.
