Artist: Maysa Alavi

Maysa is a second year medical student with a love of music, photography, yoga, cooking, and almost anything on Home and Garden TV. As far as artistic expression goes, she is drawn to portrait photography because she loves the challenge of capturing a person’s essence and emotion in a creative, intriguing way. This series of staged narratives are a response and Maya’s reaction to America’s invasion of Iraq during her sophomore year of college. Her favorite photographers include Cindy Sherman, for her novel approach to self-portraits, and Gregory Crewdson (“Twilight” series) for his masterful attention to detail.
